Midnight thoughts....

Fortunately, or unfortunately, as the case may be, I'm one of those people who just don’t seem to need much sleep. This comes in very handy when I'm under a deadline with work, or they have a late night showing of that old movie I'm just dying to see again, or I'm out of town sharing a hotel room with a dear friend whose ex-boyfriend made a big deal out of saying that her snoring kept him up at night.....that last example actually happened recently, and because of my insomnia I was able to reassure her that in fact, she didn't snore at all...therefore, he was just an idiot making up excuses. I also enjoy the quiet and solitude of being the only one awake in the house; my thoughts seem to become clearer and more focused. Being up late at night is NOT convenient when it's been so long since dinner that I get hungry again. Have you ever tried to prepare any type of food and be quiet about it? Invariably, I'll knock something LOUD out of the cupboard, or I'll bang the pans together, or drop a dish, or slam the refrigerator door. And have you ever noticed how loud that little ding on the microwave is in a silent house?? Sounds like a fire alarm!!

I've learned to prepare for these little late night food forays. I now buy those little single servings of fruit, or jello, or pudding. They have a foil top and don't make any noise when you open them. Bananas are nice and quiet, too. Sometimes I'll even pack myself a lunch to eat at 2 am, but I had to get rid of the bag...too noisy.

I've had these weird sleeping habits as long as I can remember. I remember my mother catching me with a flashlight under my blanket, reading, at all hours of the night. One thing is for sure, if I've ever spent a night in the same room with you I know all your secrets! I know if you talk in your sleep (and if you do, I've probably answered you..some of the funniest conversations in my life have been with people who were sound asleep!), if you do or do not snore, if you roll around all night or stay in one place, and how many times you get up to use the bathroom.

So, all in all, I guess not sleeping very much has added to my life. I've gotten a lot of things done that I might not have otherwise. And I've gotten a LOT of comic relief....and I guess having more time in the day (or night) to smile and laugh can't be such a bad thing.....Good night!!
